Afternoon all, 84 Euro, A/T transmission.
I have a problem with my ABS staying on, it comes on and stays on as soon as i turn the key. I am thinking it might be the relay, and for the 84 euro i believe this is relay XI, correct ?
To test this i believe i can jump pins 30 and 87, and if the relay is bad, then the warning light should go out, Is this correct ?
And if i have to replace the relay, i believe for the 84 Euro it is part number
A 928 615 124 01. Is this correct ?
If its not the relay, anyone know any good tricks on what else to look for.
Most likely not the relay. Probably the wire to one of the ABS sensors has broken right on top of the sensor, a common problem. You can test it easily if you have an ohm-meter, and can find the connectors for each of the 4 sensors you have. All 4 have to be good for the light to go out. I have seen this on my 84 and 86, both times wire broken at the front left sensor itself. They are expensive, but can sometimes be salvaged, remove the sensor that is bad, and with a dremel you can cut away the epoxy at the sensor and maybe solder a new wire to it.
Ignore Neil's advice. His applies to when the light comes on after the car moves.
You are correct with the relay,
If it isn't the one on in the CE panel there are iirc two relays on the pump itself.
Petty,
Please do your generation, parents, and school some honor and respect and use proper English when typing here on Rennlist.
But to answer your question, ABS stands for Antilock Brake System.

+1 Liz is correct.
And yes you can jumper it to see if that cures the problem but the ABS circuit is connected to the (I can't remember the number ) bus that is permanently at +12V so if you leave the jumper in your battery will go flat.
Before you jumper it check the circuit diagram on the side of the relay - There is some funny numbering on the ABS relays - you're looking for the 2 pins that are connected by a switch (looks like a gate or door on the diagram)
Thanks all, i will be looking at it this weekend. Angood info here, i did not know there were more relays on the the pump itself. After i check the realy at the CE panel, i will be looking at the relays at the pump. Can these be tested the same way by jumping the pins ?
I wouldn't recommend trying to jump the two high power relays on the back of the ABS unit (accessable after removing the inner wheelarch cover)
The good news is that those two relays have Bosch part numbers and so can be bought at a reasonable price. The relay on the CE seems to be only available from Porsche. It was quite expensive from an OPC when I bought one recently, but I expect Roger can source one at a good price if you need it.
Also check the main 12v (unswitched) feed to the ABS. It's inside that little square plastic box about 8" away from the ABS hydraulics unit. Disconnect battery first...

A few years ago, my ABS light started coming on. It fixed itself. Well, I may have helped a little but more by accident. Apparently a connector came loose on the wires that went from the right rear ABS sensor into the spare wheel well. As I recall the connector was under one of the small plastic covers in the corner of the spare well. Never had a problem since.
