Son's 1980 fuel tank line need changing?
Just about have Garrett's fuel tank back in. Does this main fuel line thats encased in insulation ever need changing?? It is a flex line but I have never seen anyone change it.
Also the electric wires that run to the pump has a couple that are just tapped up....anyone know what these would be for???

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable that I will chime in but my 82 has those same wires. Just a WAG but I'm thinking they are for the in-tank fuel pump if the car was so equipped.

Dean ... those additional wires are for an in-tank pump. My 82 has a strainer only, but has the wires, and my GTS has the in-tank fitted so on that they are used.
As the ones in your pic look hard and cracked, you'll get rid of an unnecessary potential problem by removing them, and fitting new terminals to the single pair that are left to connect to the pump.
The line takes full pump pressure so should be the same quality as all the others. Probably doesn't get changed as often as the others because it's not subject to the same heat degradation as under the hood, and is less likely to have the same risk of fire because it's not as close to spark and heat sources. Still good practice to change it, particularly on an older car.. IMO.

Replaced that line in mine a few years ago....and the accumulator...and the hard line, and the engine bay pressure line. The engine bay return line hose was NLA..

My 79 is a slightly different setup, but same area. Mine goes from the fuel pump (external) around the wheel well to the accumulator in front of the rear pass wheel behind the splash shield. I replaced with Roger's fuel line kit. Covered it with hot water heater foam insulation and it looks basically stock. Let me see if I can dig up the link I posted a few years back.

Awesome. This hose is going to be the next hose that I replace so I will be awaiting your reply on how it went!
And rolling up the sidewalks ehh? That's a new one for me hahaha!
