How did you determine that your car is reliable?
I am looking at getting my car running this week, hopefully. And I would like to drive it down to the next Saturday breakfast if it appears to be mechanically sound.
So my questions to you guys is what or how did your car prove to be reliable enough to take it on a long drive? 3+ hours. What should I be looking for in determining if it is reliable enough?

Only one way to find out.

For me, when I knew the things that could leave me stranded had either been fixed, or deemed by me to be in good operating condition. In 6 years, I've been stranded once (knock on wood) when my fuel pump went out, and it was nice and left me just a few houses down from my place.
Put in some new relays, make sure your fuel delivery is good and all your spark components are in good or new shape. Go drive the thing and feel it out, if it stutters when hot/cold/upside down, you know you have some work to do.

Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice. Most of us carry basic repair tools and some spares....just in case.

Sounds about like what I am going to do. Was just curious as to what everyone else had used to determine if it is truly road worthy. I always travel with tools. I don't like the idea of not having access to tools to fix something that isn't major but is preventing me from driving. Broken down enough times to know better, i guess you could say. I will just have to see once she is running. The only thing holding me back right now is replacing the fuel lines by the passenger head. Need a dremel to get them taken apart. I can't do them by hand like I did the injectors.

Burning Brakes
As long as you do not see flames coming out of the engine it's somewhat reliable Hopefully, you have AAA. I have yet to use my up to 200 mile tow, however did used them twice in the last year on local tows with the 928.
Have yet to tow the 912E?

The car should consistently start, always stop, have negligible or at least managable leaks (preferable none), no condition that would endanger me, any passenger I may have, any other driver, and/or the car, along with extra fuses, relays, and basic tools.
After you get it running, and feel comfortable about it, drive it around your area every night for a while just to make sure everythings gonna be okay, then see you on March 3.

I am mainly concerned about the tires, brakes, and trans. The tires I have are not really usable and I would need a set of tires to use. There are a few local shops that I can get used tires from and will probably do so. Next is the brakes. I know I need to flush the lines and put in new fluid. I just hope they work. What are some common issues with the brakes that I may need to be aware of? I don't have the money to completely replace the brakes and rotors before the 3rd. Which may prove to be the reason I do not drive it down.
