Default Starting Engine on Jacks

Maybe a stupid question, but going to ask anyway.

Just changed out the starter motor, car up on Ken's rails and supported with jacks. Can I start the car while up on the rails to ensure all working before lowering?

I do it all the time. For extra safety though, I usually have my floor jacks just resting under the bar at its lift points since they're just laying around anyway. I.e., they're extended and touching the bar, but not bearing any of the weight.

It will be fine assuming it's supported properly.

I'm currently looking for 6 ton jacks, I don't trust my Harfreight 3 ton jacks.

Get the 6 ton Northern Tool ones, they work just fine and I've been happy with them

Keep in mind usually as the rating goes up, so does the minimum lift height.

Weak point in most jack stands is the end user making mistakes that a different brand won't fix, like poor placement, uneven ground, etc.

No problem. Like others said, use good quality jack stands. Also not bad to have a secondary support system (secondary stands or jacks).

I would slide those jack stands in a little so they're not at the extreme end of he lift bar.
