I have an intermittent temp gauge, have the pod out (thx for brilliant write-up by Schocki -) the oval PCB looks very clean, and I cannot see any cracks in the "pin sockets" that slide over the white instrument pod backplane when the oval PCB is installed. Sorry to be asking this question, but is there a post that takes over from Schocki's and details the next checks and cleanliness details?
Underhood connections seem clean & tight
Thanks/Tim

Tim,
Could you tap the pod and the gauge would work? How was it intermitant?
When Schocki and I did my oil pressure gauge we resoldered the main contact points and been good ever since.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

I would lose the gauge and a sharp rap on the pod would often bring it back.
It would be worth flowing the solder again on each of the gauge main joints and then hook the cluster back up (without installing the pod) and see if it works.
I assume you have checked the sender (left side of thermostat)?
