Default While we're (Briefly) on the Topic of R12.....

I'm going to need a reference for an R12 service before the heat comes on here. It's improbable I'm going to be able to source a tech that will do it in the GTA, and I'm not going to convert to 134A unless I'm left with no other option.

Therefore any suggestions or options available within a reasonable radius of Toronto would be greatly appreciated.

And by reasonable, we could probably start somewhere between Chicago and Detroit and go from there....

TIA!

Pretty impossible arround these parts, unless you find a guy with old new stock. But then if somone has the R12, will they part with it? I'm in the same boat as you and will watch the thread.

You just need to find the right connections and/or geography. There's no doubt in my mind that there's tons of R12 around still in our area. You just need to find someone with the right equipment to do service.......

If the northeast U.S. is the only available solution, I'm good with that too.

Worst case scenario...we have an excuse for a road trip.

I should talk to the owner of a shop that comes in my restaurant. He did the safety for me without even looking at the car, maybe he has connections. Worth a shot.

When I lived in Toronto I used Euromotion Garage on 30th Street in Etobicoke for allot of work. They specialize in older Mercedes but they do work on A/C systems and the owner Paul (ask for him) is a very resourceful guy.

Try Paul @ 416-251-4788

Talk to Cosmo Kramer (Ted) he had his converted and works like a charm. If I'm not mistaken, the conversion was nothing more then intalling fitting adapters and filling the system with R134a.

Last time I've heard, Meheeeko has plenty of R12.

Imre is right. I have a local mechanic here that made special adapters on his machine to hook up to the older R12 cars. He vacuums out all the old refrigerant, puts in the new oil and charges it. My first charge lasted 3 years until I jacked up my engine to do motor mounts, flexed one of the old crusty rubber hoses and sprung a leak there. New hose and a fresh charge of 134 and I was back in business last summer. Even worked well down in SITM at the beginning of June.

Those adapters are standard and comes with all coversion kits. If you can't get them here, they are available EVERYWHERE in the US. I might have a set somewhere in the garage.

What would be the approximate cost? Also, I thought you needed (I think) different expansion valves, new o-rings and seals (due to the higher acidity of the 134a and different oil....etc. etc......

Capt. Earl says that R12 is preferred for a few big reasons. You guys in Canada need a/c? How do you know if it even works at all? J/K!
