Loose wiper stalk
Found some time today to finish reassembling stalk switches/wheel after removing pod to replace couple of blown bulbs.
When I was testing things I noticed the wiper stalk felt loose. Sometimes it moved with positive action between the intermittent, off and 3 speed positions. Sometimes there was a lot of play. The wipers are operating correctly and the switch stalks weren't strained or damaged during the job (I just left them on the column but with rear connectors off). All other column switchgear operating perfectly - it's just the wiper stalk which sometimes feels odd.
To be honest I don't drive her often in the rain, so I don't know if this problem was there before I took things apart!
Can't find any posts relating to working on the column stalks. Doers anyone know if there is a fix for a stalk behaving like this, or do I need to keep my eye out on ebay for replacement column stalk unit?
Thanks
Adrian

The part is called the combo switch. It may be repairable - or just loose? Are the turn signal and cruise control stalks also loose? If so, the whole combo switch just needs to be tightened properly. If not then take it off and see if you can fix it.
i recall seeing a thread on this - drill out the rivets and tighten, screw back together. If not, get another. They aren't too expensive used. In fact, I sold a couple of them last year for not that much.

Evaluate the symptoms better - does the auto cancel work? all functions correct?
May just need tightening - else repair is possible but quite complicated... see previous threads on this.

Thanks for replies.
Yes the turn and cruise stalks work perfectly, and I can see the turn cancel mechanism at the centre ring being engaged correctly by turn stalk when it's moved to a flash position. It's just the wiper stalk that doesn't feel 100%.
I may try to fix, but only with a replacement in my hot hands in case I make things worse! Looking around even new units not that expensive.

Take pics and make a tutorial out of it. It sounds like a simple mechanical issue with the stalk inside of the combo switch housing.

Good idea Ed. Won't get round to it for a bit - i get far too little time to work on my 928 these days so I won't start a job which means I risk missing a planned even. When I get some breathing space I'll see what's up. Meantime the switch is functioning - I just have this thing about getting things right!
