Splice into the fuel injection lines and run fuel all the way back to the exhaust pipe, then install a spark plug and let the bitch rip. Of course you may never be able to shut it off, but for a few minutes, right before the gas tank melts, it will be a hell of a show. Better yet, T another fuel pump in the back and run it to an injector. Unregulated these Bosch pumps produce a hell of a lot of pressure, into one injector it would throw flames at least a hundred feet (I'm kidding).
The hot rod guys I've seen have a kind of kit with a small propane bottle like you'd get for camping and a burner in the exhaust. They have an ignitor that is no more sophisticated than your bbq pit one. The flame is kind of nifty on those cars but the exhaust pipes stick way out. I guess the interesting colors they produce are from the propane-fueled-fire burning the impurities and unburnt crap in the exhaust.
Finally I'll say inducing flames in the *** end of a car with the fuel tank installed 2 feet away is kind of (insert word here that means dumb).

When I had a turbo an old racer mechanic told me I should put a fuel injector in the headers before the turbo and have it add fuel when off throttle. The idea being the burning fuel would keep the turbo spooled.
