Hello all,
I just had my rear bumper repainted and the 9 2 8 G T S badging was taken off. Any Ideas on how to put it back on strait and in the right location?

Hi Martin
I can help you with photos and measurements to get the right position.
I assume the letters were taken off individually?
If so they can be set out on a hard surface with the correct spacing and alignment, and then some very wide paper masking tape (not flexible) applied over the top of the letters, so that it holds them in that correct configuration (I can take pics with measurements to allow you get this part right). This can then be turned over and the new adhesive tape applied on the back of the letters can be exposed. Finally the letters can be applied to the bumper as a group with this masking paper holding them together, in the location marked out using masking tape for the bottom line, and two small pieces to mark the beginning and end. Press the letters firmly to adhere then peel off the masking tape. You would need to wipe the paint with alcohol to clean the surface prior to all this, and be very sure that the paint is hard enough to allow the masking tape to be applied and pulled off again. This procedure is what sign-writers use to apply vinyl pre cut lettering, and works well to get it perfect.

I've just thought of a better way to do this than the conventional sign-writer technique.
I take a good hi res image of my original GTS lettering and give you the length and height of the group, and the position dimensionally of the group on the bumper. You print that pic off at a size that is exactly the same overall height and length dimensions as the original, and cut out the letters using a scalpel, which will give you a mask/template. Stick that 100% size template on in the correct position, with dimensions I give you.
With the mask in the correct position you can then apply each letter/number individually to the corresponding mask cut outs, to give you a photo perfect result.

Hello Dave,
For reasons of reference (as my car is hopefully getting repaired, which will then include a new rear bumper - among another few panels) could you please be so kind and also provide me with that same information as per your 2nd version?

For the conversion of Godzilla's S4 badge, I used child's glue stick and attached the lot to the car temporarily. Took photos from all angles, and retried over and over till it looked good from all angles. Then did it again, this time permanently using the photos as a.guide.

There's no ruler on this pic nor is it the original factory badge, so the spacing might be wrong, but here's a qualitative data point. I will put a ruler on it and take a pic so you can compare it to Dave's pic.

I'm away from my car at the moment but will have that photo with dimensions up within 24 hours. I must look at the WSM version and see how they determine the correct angle of the letters/numbers, and compare it to my on car original ... I'll post that comparison too.

Here's a pic of the GTS badging, with masking tape edge lines of the rectangle and self explanatory measurements. I've sent a high res to Martin. Arnoud .. send me a PM with your email address and I'll send it to you too.
Choose a print scaling to produce a mask of a size to match the dimensions shown, then stick to the rear bumper as per written in dimensions, after cutting out letters and numbers with a sharp blade.
Randy .. I can't find the WSM tutorial in my documents, to compare dimensions and show how angles are set with this difficult script style ... would you mind posting? I know mine is original and so it would be interesting to see how accurate the factory placement is.

This should do the trick.
