I have a couple quesitons, and maybe I'm just not seeing the obvious:

It looks like the rod has a big scrape on the side of it. But I'm picturing the actuation of a slave cylinder and the rod doesn't come into contact with the cylinder right? Yet some how I presume that either the cylinder has been scored badly or the rubber piton seal has been damaged, thus casuing the leak of fluid.

And I still don't see what would cause the screeching sound.

It seems obvious that the scrape on the piston rod is somehow related to the porblem, I'm just trying to figure out how it would cause your symptoms.

What am I missing or misunderstanding?

To me it would seem that the clutch assembly or the fly wheel are not seated properly and are rubbing on the slave cylinder rod and/or the bell housing.

is the release arm bushing new? it should be.
I dont know how you could have the clutch rod not in its hole in the release arm and the clutch working

Perhaps on the arm, but inboard of the proper location?

I did not pull the inspection plug when I installed it and did it blind, because I had done this before. there is a side scrape inside the bell housing from the rub.

This is 100% stupid installer error.

The long scrap is the rub on the starter ring with the rod when pushing the clutch in and out.
The tip peel is the pinch between the bell housing and the arm and the arm cut into the shaft and the metal rolled up and thus the curl.

Now given the increasing taper of the V trough where the arm swings, as you push the clutch in the rod rises and thus the contact with the starter ring.
