Thanks for all the support and comments.
I do long to be like big John Curry but don't quite have his luck of buying non running cars that fire right up after 30 minutes work.
I love my 28x50 garage, but it's full as you can see. I've got some ideas to expand it by 12' in width by continuing the current roof line down from it's 10' wall, to 7' on one side, which would add about 600 sq ft and another single bay on the front and rear. So many projects, so little time. (I still have Christmas lights up)
I've never been much for white on 928's but after seeing this car I realized I really like white on S4's, and I'm thinking the color is probably easier to work with as far as polishing and touching up than most. I'm going to polish it today and see how shiny I can get it. White is single stage, no clear, like red right?
I don't really need to fix the old engine, but it does make sense to try and see what I can do since I have so many extra engine parts now. I should have 8 good pistons in the 89 TBF engine. The guy at the machine shop seemed like he really knew his stuff and he said that TBF is very common on many engines, often caused by the torque converter on other cars, and he didn't think the aluminum shavings would have any negative effect on the R2 heads in the TBF engine, so I've got a decent set of R2 heads that just needs to be disassembled and cleaned up. I may sell the rebuild R1 heads.
I don't have an engine hoist (yet), so the lift was the only way I could get the replacement engine off the trailer and onto the furniture dolly where it will live for the next few months. The engine looks very top heavy on the dolly but it actually won't tip over very easily. I've been figuring out all kinds of ways to use my lift. My son even crushes aluminum cans under the arms as they come down.
Finding all the nuts and bolts will be an issue, but some are in zip locks and labelled. Also having another S4 to look at is a huge benefit.
Forgot to mention, the car came with two computers, one maybe bad, I'll test both with the red car. Also got a silicon oil pan gasket and a brand new Chinese waterpump that's trying real hard to look German. It will never cool one of my 928s. (The replacement engine has a shiny new looking water pump on it, so I may be able to just go with that depending on what I find when I dig into it).

Don, glad you were able to collect this car. I certainly wanted to, but as we discussed, I am entirely out of space for more projects..... I have a serious case of barn envy regarding your facility.....I have learned you can never have too big of a garage or barn....I had 6000-7000 square feet of barn in two houses and filled them both in short order, so please be forewarned....
Regards the '88, we can try my 12 ton press on the stuck piston, just let me know when you want to try it. I know Ramon soaked it in several different solutions to try to loosen it up, to no avail, but we never tried the press after the soaking, just tried to loosen it with a wood block on the piston and some whacks on the wood block with a medioum hammer. it would be easier for me to bring the press to your house than you to haul the block over here, I think. not certain what would have to be done to the bores of the 3 frozen cylinders to restore to running...migh be worth the effort, maybe not....

I neglected to credit you with passing this deal on to me. Much appeciated, and definately understand being overloaded with projects. I probably should have passed too... Thanks again for your help with the pick up of the car.
Thanks for the offer on the press but i got the stuck piston out this evening. I soaked it with PB Blaster overnight and tapped it out with a small sledge and a large blunt chissel. The corrosion in the bore is about 3" from the top of the cylinder so the important part of the bore seems fine. If it's salvageable, I may have to learn more about 928 engine building since I may have all the parts to make another engine.
This evening I found hundreds of dollars of receipts for new parts I haven't found yet in the boxes of parts, including new injectors, inj seals, top end gaskets etc...

Don't try to push it out if it's that stuck you will destroy the bore.
Instead have it milled out especially since you have 8 good pistons from the tbf engine.

There is a rough ring where the top of the piston was, corrosion I guess, but it was near the bottom of it's stroke, which I think is a good thing. I haven't looked too closely at it yet, this was after hours of sorting parts, draining the tank on the red car (time to replace with used) and various other garage projects, so I was ready to call it quits.
I would think some light sanding by hand with oil, might be ok to clean things up, especially since it's not in the compression area of the bore, but I know nothing about these alumisil bores and what you can and can't do. I know you're not supposed to hone them, and they are supposed to be smooth, unlike a Chevy block, but not sure if that means you can't use light abrasives to clean problem areas.

I saw the new injectors when I inspected the car last month. Ramon had a lot of new parts, that was at least part of my interest in the car, all the new parts included. I am not certain if there are head gaskets or not, I know he had found a "deal" on a new set but not sure if he ordered them or not. We were speaking of the cost of a new set of bearings, rings, head gaskets, and a bunch of smaller parts and he came up with a number he didn't like.....that was when he decided to bail out of the project.....
