Hey hey, that's finest Stuttgart plywood there - probably cut down (from the plywood forest) using a Stihl chainsaw.

Don't feel bad - you ever seen the underside of a super-high-tech-space-age-composites Formula 1 car? Yes, that's a wooden plank...

Haha, that reminds me of one time i was reading through the WSM and a job required a piece of wood to support something, and the manual actually lists the piece of wood needed as "locally manufactured lumber".

Way back when I got my first 928 (84 928S)... I was amazed at all the cool finely engineered bits on it like the nearly double a arm front suspension, the weissach rear axle, the wrap around cockpit etc.... then I got to the fuse panel..and saw the plywood cover, I thought..crap...the PO...Jimmy Bobby got to it and it was going to be an electrical nightmare LOL

Was relieved and somewhat confused after finding out it was factory ;D

But but but wouldn't a really cool aluminum cover with 928 laser etched into look so much nicer. I mean really, what are the chances that one of the cars will burn to the ground with a direct short. I mean the odds are like 1:2. So you have at least a chance that nothing will happen.

Clear lexan would be a nice upgrade, possibly with a laser cut Porsche/928 logo.

Perhaps a new project for Hans?

I agree I was shocked back in Jan 2000 when I bought my first S4, to find plywood in a gorgeous Porsche. You don't find it in a 944 or 911.

There are also vendors on ebay that will cut any thickness lexan, etc to your specs, polish the edges, and ship to your door. Don't think you will need the "928" graphics with the array of fuses, relays, wiring, etc that will now be visible. Could look pretty cool.02 77Tony

Its interesting how so many of our first time 928 experiences are similar to one another.

I at least hope that it is Bavarian Black Forest plywood.

Thats why they lost the war..to a point. So much of the best **** the Germans had, was a field maintenance nightmare.

There were kits to destroy a Panzer tank, rather than repair it on the field.

THAT guy, designed the CE panel of the 928...just modern safety concerns left out the explosive charges in case of trouble.

I wasn't surprised to find the plywood - but then, we used a lot of plywood on our C-130's, C-141's, C-5's, etc...

If memory serves me, there is a piece in the footwell of my 993.
Many times there is wood in the drivers seat as well.

foot well floor boards in my 3.2 911 are thin plywood. now have blingy Rennsport aluminum.

maybe I should change my sig to say "if I can't go faster, at least I want to look good."

Is there some sort of 'no carpet, no floormat' trend that I've missed?
