Default Oil pressure sender thermostat spring

Hi there 928 friends! I'm new on Rennlist but I am a long time owner of my 1985 928S (Since 2003). Also have a 2004 Cayenne, but that's not so relevant here!

My question is, I'm unsure of the taper direction of the large thermostat spring (This spring is behind the thermostat insert and plug - The plug is the part that the oil pressure sender screws into). The spring diameter tapers across its length and unfortunately, I did not note which way it went. I have attached a pic showing the bits and pieces. Any help would be appreciated! I have checked my workshop manuals, but they are not much help in this case.

No sooner had I posted the above, I found this thread.....

It pretty much explains everything! Although, I may not have actually removed the thermostat plug had I read this first!!
