Default OB power seat troubleshooting

I pulled the drivers seat to recover. While pulling the fore/ aft would only work in the forward.

I am trying to test the switch, Need some help working through the wiring diagram.

How do I check the switch with a multimeter?

Thanks

You have electric seats in your 79?

I have an extra car battery I use to test seats. Just make up a couple jumpers and test away in the house.

Thanks Dean, great idea.

I was hoping to be able to at least eliminate the switch before putting it back togather.

I was looking for which pins I should have continuity between when each side of the switch is engaged.

Yep. The 79 wiring diagram includes a schematic for them as well.

Not sure how common they were.

So I have done some tests with my multimeter.

All three switches test the same. Pins 1 and 3 show open (no continuity) with switch in nuetral and then show closed when the switch is depressed to the forward direction.

Pins 2 and 4 show closed with switch in nuetral and circuit goes to open when switch is depressed to the back position.

Since I get the same for all 3 switches and the other 2 were functioning properly in the car I assume my switches are good and the no backward travel issue is somewhere else.

Comes dowm to wiring, relay or motor as best as I can tell from the diagram. Any suggestions on most likely suspect? Seems that since the motor will run one direction it is not the issue. Is that a bad assumption?

Thanks

Is the seat adjusted ALL the way in one direction?? My passenger seat is all the way back and will not move forward but its NOT the motor...its the track gear in my case. If its not all the way then I would venture to guess its the switch and not the motor. Try the switch from the other seat.

The switches are the same if I remember right. they operate in the same way. Try any switch that you know works and put it in the forward backward position.
