Please help: Instrument Warning lights, Gauges and more…(89 S4)
Car: 1989 Porsche 928 S4, Automatic.
Problem: The Warning lights do not come up except ABS and hand brake indicator lights. The gauges such as mileage indicators, speedometer etc also do not work.
Background: Everything was working yesterday. This is a daily driver. I remember doing following things yesterday before I went to sleep: refastened the tool cover panel this time with all the tools in it, Replaced spare tire as it had been removed, tightened few bolts under driver’s side hatch release cover. I wonder if I may have accidently shot something but then the fuse or the Relays should show some impact right. I undid everything but no luck.
As a side note: about two months ago the Ignition switch was replaced by a Porsche mechanic.
In addition, following things that worked before also do not work now:
Radio does not power up, Rear side markers do not come up when head lights are on. Interior lights also do not work
Following things DO work:
Head lights, Fog lights, turn lights, tail lights, brake lights and the front two side markers lights work. wipers also work. The car drives well with no issues.
following has been done so far :
Checked and rechecked all Fuses, swap ignition Relay with other working once. Checked and Tightened dimmer switch assembly (there was and old post referencing dimmer switch).
Any ideas what I need to do next?
BTW is there a connection between instrument controls and Fuel pump ?
Thanks all and sorry to start the new year this way: )

check your fuses you probably blew one.
Clean both of the battery terminals,
check the hatch motor wire harness connector

replace these fuses one at a time to see what one makes a difference

Also check the wire harness connector in the spare tire well as you may have bumped it,
this might take out the side markers as well,
find the 2 white connectors that run along the floor of the hatch for the side markers,
they may have gotten jostled by refitting the tool tray, disconnect them and inspect for corrosion

I had symptoms similar to this and it turned out to be a sticky ignition key.
I would lose power to certain things (some dash display, radio, wipers) and after checking all fuses, I accidentally hit my keys and they turned backwards slightly and everything was back to normal. Sprayed some De-Oxit in the tumbler and have had no problems since.
