No, at least not from the research I gathered.
There was early analog display in 78, then digital display in mid-year 79. The 2-**** was replaced by a single **** early 80'ish, with the Bamberg.

Unfortunately still a factory installed item on most American cars even in the early 80's. I still remember a Van Halen 8 track that would pop over to the next track in the middle of "running with the devil" - to the extent that even today I expect a brief pause, pop, click, and continuation of the song.
In other words, 8 track ruined a key moment in my development.
As far as Germans not making them, Blaupunkt made 8 track units for dealer installations in Porsche cars in the 1970s. They don't say Porsche on them but do match (more or less) the older style, spartan dashboards of the 911s.
One on ebay recently, quite haggard by the looks of the bezel:
