Default Transmission, Torque Tube, Clutch R & R - 82 Manual

That is my project for the winter. While I’m in there, I plan to do shocks, brakes, steel ball joints, pan gasket, motor mounts?, and anything else I find needing attention. I might even pull the engine and do a top and front refresh. That will be WAY TOO MUCH MONEY into this car (Roger, I'll be in touch) but what the heck, it’s a hobby, right?

So my question for now: Am I insane thinking I can drop the rear suspension, tranny and TT all at once? Seems I read that someone has done this. Maybe Bill Ball with an auto even?

All comments and suggestions considered. Thanks in advance. Denny

P.S. Hopefully I’ll get some preliminary pics up before the 1st of the year.

Stay tuned.

Denny,
You can drop the gearbox and subframe as one unit. I guess the TT would come with it as long as it was supported. Not a one man job though - for me anyway.

Denny,
You can remove the clutch pack and unbolt the torque tube from the bellhousing, which will disconnect the front end, and then go for it in removing the rest as one unit. All you need is jack stands, a few trolley jacks and some inventive imagination to keep everything supported and secure from slipping/falling. I've done it by myself. On jack stands is awkward ... a lift would have made it easy

I took it all out at once. Had the wife and 10yr old on both sides with straps wrapped around crossmember and swaybar and me under the car bringing the TT down level with them. Really not that heavy and came down easy. In 2 days I had the engine pulled, both front and rear suspension completely removed, and the TT and Tranny removed. Talk about a tough weekend. But now I am ready to get into everything and clean, clean, clean. Just take it apart completely and really make it look good. Why not right!

And then sanity will come back and you will see the mountain in front of you. And you will rise up and say, "heck yah! I can do this!" Or maybe, "what have I done!"

Either way, enjoy your intimate time with the beast and you will be happier for it. Good luck.
