Just dropped my intake parts off at the powder coater. He is also going to PC the Porsche and 32V lettering in guards red and black.
While I was there I started talking about ways to get the oil "stains" out of the pores of my oil pan. He suggested sand blasting and then burnishing with a light media. He said he has done with with other aluminum parts and it creates a much smoother surface, closes up the pores in the casting and won't "stain" as easily. Reading a bit about burnishing it appears the process is a light deformation of the surface. If done too much it can cause some issues with surface flaking due to work hardening of the top layer of material.
Anybody have any experience with this on their pan?

Ok. Here is how the pan turned out. The first pic is the start. The second pic is after about an hour of scrubbing with everything I could find. The third pic is after burnishing. I'm very happy with the results.

Here's a bunch of stuff post cleaning (parts washer with odorless mineral spirits) and then glass bead blasting. Very satisfyingly clean! But now you need to take a large bubble bath with that oilpan and scrub the damn thing about 10 times to make sure every last bunch of beads are gone. Engines + glass beads = death.

funny the only part of the pan that you can see is the front top just under the crank.
The pan looks great however.
Make sure to wash it atleast 3 times with simple green or some other good grease cutting cleaner then rinse it off with hot water
