As others have mentioned, it's sidewall height and stiffness, not the rim size that causes the rough ride. It depends on how much your car is lowered, or if it's at stock height. If you live in a state with bumpy roads and lots of potholes, then you might be better off with keeping the 17's, and lowering the car 1". If you are in a place with really smooth roads, you might be able to get away with keeping the stock ride height, and having 18" rims with tires that are not super-low-profile. I wouldn't recommend 35 series tires, or anything super thin like that. 40 or 50 series sidewall height would be much better.

I went from 16" (Toyo Proxes TR1) to 18" (Conti DSW) and didn't notice much difference. The Contis are considered to have a softer ride than competitors, at least according to Tire Rack. I'm happy anyway.

Anybody put these on their 928? Are they worth the extra $? Ive been told their the most compliant 18s out there? Feedback?

Curious as to what you are comparing price-wise . . . these seem to be in the middle of price range. Also, the tires I have are the DWS (not DSW as I said earlier) which are all-season - the summers versions are called DW.

I went from the stock 16s to 19s and much prefer the 19s. The 16 tires were probably just crap and I really prefer the feedback a lower sidewall gives.

Fwiw, I also run my 951 on 18s and my Cayenne on 22" in the summer. 928 rides smother than all of them on the 19s.

I go between 17's and 18's on my lowered 79 all the time and I cannot tell any difference with ride quality.

I notice a big difference between 16 and 18.

I hit a couple normal sized potholes up in NJ this spring on 18's and bent the frt rt rim pretty significantly.
But they sure look more modern.
