Air pump, central timing belt cover, power steering pump are on.



Thnings are starting to get cluttered again...

Been trying to modify the breather system, but not there yet. Alternator installed, evaporator and transmission cooler.

Need some small stuff then it's time to start her up.

Thanks! It is really um black. I need to finish up the last small stuff but I'm also going on vacation. I hope to get her running second half of august.

 

Soooo...after discovering a reed valve in the A/C compressor had broken and the tensioner bolt was leaking, I needed to find a new valve plate and take the whole front of again to fix the tensioner.

Greg Brown provided me with a good valve plate and came up with the solution for the leaking tensioner.

So here I am, rebuilt the A/C compressor, installed it, fixed the tensioner, installed the evaporator, transmission oil cooler, radiator.

 

A journey which lasted much much longer than I had planned. Which took me many many times to the tool store, to ebay, to rennlist, to our favorite vendors, to the post office, to two Porsche dealers, to a plater, to a powder coater, to a oil hose rebuilder, an A/C line rebuilder, and to the coffee machine many many times.

I must admit that doing this project was a lot of fun. No broken bolts, so relatively easy wrenching. The only thing that makes it hard, is the incredibly tight quarters in the engine bay. I didn't particularly like the cleaning part, I must have removed a few kilos of crud.

And so the project ends. The car runs, she purrs like kitten. No leaks, no weird sounds. Like it is supposed to be.

I will miss the evenings wrenching. Just me, my 928, and the radio. I need a new project.

I had not being following this thread. I will go back and read it during the next couple of days.
I have a couple of observations that the real mechanics should chime in.
I have been told that on the Kemp tool the tension should be to the end of the window and not the middle.
Secondly you seem to be missing the cover over the main electrical connector in the engine bay.
It looks great Enjoy driving it.

Bilal, I posted many additional questions in separate threads as well during this project.

From what I have read Kempf tool on the high side equals more or less 5.0 on the other (91-something) tool. That would be between the middle and end of the window. Four years ago a Porsche dealer set the old belt to 5.25. Spec is 5.0 + 0.3. The Kempf tool was right on the edge. I aimed for 3/4 of the window this time, without knowing what to comes to in numbers btw. It just "felt" right. Looking at the pic though I will set it a bit higher on retensioning after 1500 km.
