Default heated mirror

it's getting cold here in the northwest and frost on window so i turned the rear defogger on and the mirror should start to heat right? the right side works fine(5 minutes) but the left side is slow (10 minutes driving) and still not cleared but not frozen so any idea or it's normal?
Thanks
Barry

If one side is working then the circuit and relay is good. I would look at the connections at the mirror.

I use a thin putty knife to slide between the mirror and the backing plate and then pry or twist gently. Have not broken one yet. Push the mirror manually all the way out on one side then slide in the putty knife. There are two pins on one side and one on the other. You should work it back and forth from end to end gently to get the mirror to release. Putting it back in is simple - just push it back in place.

The connections on the mirror are best removed with a pair of pliers by twisting them. The plastic is old and will break. I used liquid electrical tape to seal them and a little grease on the connections. You can measure voltage across these wires when the system is on to insure electricity is getting to the mirror and trace it back from there. Check the glass on the back for cracks. Use an ohm meter to check the mirror for continuity. It should have some resistance but I have no idea how much.

What are you doing driving a 928 in the cold. Get a three cylinder Saab or VW.

Thanks Dan, i think i am going to leave it for now until the spring to look at it further, too bad you don't have the cold to drive the 928 - it's more alive with the cold air just make it go better!

"Dan the Pod Guy" means? Do you sell pod? repair?

Barry,

After 21 years in New England I found I was allergic to the cold weather. Had to find myself a place where it never or very rarely snows.

Yes I am the Pod Guy and I used to repair pods. My health turned on me and my asthma prevents me from working with the chemicals. I still have the ad up on my web site but have not had an order since I raised my prices. I now have a guy helping and one pod order from a friend, but we have not been able to get started on it with all the work I am doing on my 78. This weekend we got the last coat of primer and the blocking is done, so next week we will start on the color. I will put up some pictures when I have some that shows the progress. It is kind of hard to so much progress while cleaning and blocking the same fender for about the 50th time. (well it seemed like that). Next week I hope to get the hardeware back from the plating company.

Good luck on the mirror.
