Hello there in Edmonton, I just moved from Edmonton I was working for almost 20 years there. I did new home construction until the bust in 08, sold my house and moved back to Calgary where I came from. Edmonton is even colder than Calgary! I think I will post pictures of the car if I keep it depending on if it will live, it all comes down to how much money it needs. I can put $10,000 in the project, because that's what it is and it's still only worth $7,000

Good luck!

Hi Barry in B.C. can you tell me where to get parts in Canada? I have just seen them in the U.S. so far, takes for ever to get them, customs.

You may be overly optimistic at $ 7,000 I just bought a running 80 auto for $1,500. Rigel is a good shop I have my car Dyno'd there. But they need to make a profit. Did they quote you on just doing the belt?

Like Malcom said If you don't need the car fixed right away wait till spring. Save your $$$$$$$$$$ there will be lots of other projects to spend money on. Trust me.

The antifreeze may be a trivial leak, such as one of the block off plates on the heads near the back of the motor or the waterbridge at the front. Sure, it could be a head gasket, but you should look for other leaks before going there.

Have a new belt installed and take it from there.

You have the books. There are numerous guides available here regarding the timing belt job. See how much the shop wants. Figure $1-2K at most depending on how much WYAIT stuff the shop wants to do. You can do it yourself if you installed fuel pump.
Thanks Bill Ball for your quick reply. I am learning how this forum and site works and will be able to send better information in the future and look forward to hearing more from you in the future. Take care.

I believe there are a few of us in Alberta or near that may even know the car?
That's what I said when he gave me the list from the inspection, not to mention that an engine rebuild is $30,000. I told him how much would it cost to put in a ford small block, he kinda looked at me sideways, I laughed!

Roger at 928's RUS and Mark anderson at 928 specialists are your new best friends. Both are awesome and ship to Canada every day.

I have 4 928's and there is always something in need of repair. If you don't like working on your car or don't have the inclination to do it yourself you should run away right now. A non running 928 can quickly burn a big hole in your pocket and could try the patience of a saint to get it running correctly.
( professional mechanics included at $ 100/hr)

Don't get me wrong the 928 is an awsome car but I have a love hate relationship with mine. Love to drive them hate to work on them especially when they don't run. PM me and I will give you my phone number if you would like to discuss things.

Standard phrase is $10k away from a $5k car.

That doesn't mean you can actually find a sorted car for $5k, just that an average car after sorting out doesn't sell for much of a premium from an average car.

Yes will do, I have rebuilt a engine before and nothing scares me when it comes to cars and have other projects on the go. I had six cars before I moved to Calgary and got down to two and now back up to three, funny how that works! When I was younger I did auto body work on heavy rigs roll over and such and have my own spray equipment. I just didn't know where to start on the porsche after looking at the manual and not knowing anything about 928's and being D.O.A. By the way I am not a big porsche fan never looked at them just the 928 and if Kia built them I'd still buy one, so lets see what happens on Monday

2 years ago when i got the car and start getting quotes from dealer and that was the last time then i turned to the local auto part store like Lordco auto parts and Napa but only for small stuff like hoses, radiator cap and fluids. After that i buy most of the stuff from the vendors here including oil filter and sparkplugs to radiator and fuel hoses - lot cheaper but it does take a while, just drive my other car while waiting for parts that's all - like i said - drive while restore!

I checked out ads from kijiji and auto trader and your right. Let me correct myself and the car is only worth $2500 bucks, already paid to much!

Yes AH you are correct and B Ball is wrong. The 79 euro is an interfearance engine. I think the cam lobes are larger and open the valves higher.

and Im talking from EXPERIANCE and ownership of a 79 euro

Blue, if the car is in nice shape the car is worth what you paid easy. even if the pait was rough but the interior was nice.. still in good shape. Dont lose hope yet. The 928 is a love for the car project. If you have a nice one, it really is best to stick with it. But also if its a dog, dump it.

Yes, thank you, I did check out RW 928 forum looks like a great back up when needed. As you can see I have two hands full of guidance thanks to all you hard core 928 guys. I wounder is there any female DIY owners on rennlist? BTW it is not a euro model but built for Canada and has the Canada seal stamp on the inside driver door.

theres very little diff between the 928s that were originally sold in Canada and the US.

Heated seats for Canada cars and extra air con option for US were obvious diffs.

some Euros came here but mostly exJapanese cars are in Canada,,,,purely an import thing.
