Default Used Exhaust Headers FS

These are off of a '87 S4 motor. I do not know the brand as there are no I.D. marks on them. They seem to look like MSDS but again I do not know.

The only thing that needs to be done is to paint and run a tap in the mount for the oxygen sensor as the PO did not screw in the OX sensor properly.

Asking $300.00
This does not include shipping.

How much do they really benefit over the stock pipes on a stock engine.

I know they will help and they are a great price, but without searching the threads, I wonder.

Greg
Will they fit on 2 valve engines with just removing the upper tab?

Two questions:
Does anyone know if I modify the flange will they fit an '85 4.7?
And
Greg, how much is shipping to 11946?

You have to move one of the side holes too. In other words, welding on more material and then moving the hole. So its not a 5 min job.

As to the power they add, this depends on other modifications, how the car is running before hand etc.

If I could stop doing "WYIT's" and get the engine back in the car I'm sure it would run fine (fingers crossed). As for Brian's I couldn't say, but from the video's I've seen of Brad's car his runs just fine

I am not sure of my next step and it is a bit early for headers for me.
When I am ready to buy Colin's cams next summer then I will need the headers for the extra lung capacity. After that would be what kind of boost do I want to use.

There is a step by step process to performance, not just throwing parts at them.

My biggest concern with headers is the heat and what it destroys.
They are really nice if they are coated and rapped but then you are looking at $2000 or more.

Brad,
I'm currently running the 85/86 SS exhaust manifolds, not the stock to me cast units, if the headers were coated do you think they'd expell any more heat than the exhaust manifolds I have now?

I added headers and 1 mm more lift on gts cams and gained about 35 hp but lost low end torque....really disappointing....did not know what I was doing.

was never sharktuned and I am sure that is what was needed.

I was told when I switched out the cast manifolds and installed the SS one's I was going to gain HP and lose low end torque as well but since I installed an X pipe at the same time I didn't feel any difference. Not that I could anyway. I'm still in the boat of limited technical expertise, but thought since I have the engine out now would be a good time to install headers.

I have been told, that some header coatings really help keep the external header temp down and keep the heat inside the header. Ceramic

When it comes to ***** to the wall performance you want the exhaust to stay hot as hot molecules travel faster and you want the exhaust to exit quick.
This is why you wrap small engine 2 stroke exhaust, which you may have seen.

I am guessing that the manifolds you have now are similar to mine?

I see palican wants $1687.25 per side (Exhaust Manifold, 928 (1985-86), Left )
so these headers are a bargain.
They would not add that much extra heat when moving but when you stop the under hood temps go up.

I turn on my AC fans to reduce under hood temps with a separate switch.

********************

Andy it is not the fault of the cams.
you just need the intake opened up and the exhaust to flow.
Then tune it for those parts.

Sounds like a win to me, that's why these cars have 5-speeds

Brad,
Basically yes, my manifolds look like yours but my flanges accept only two studs, not three..
