My 1990 will close both windows and the sunroof if the key is held in the "Lock" position. According to what I've read in the Owners Manual the close sequence is supposed to start if the door cylinder is held in the "lock" position more than 0.5 seconds. Mine takes about 30 seconds to respond and then it is slow to recognize that each item is closed and it is time to step to the next one. I took the window control unit out from under the drive seat and inspected all the harness connections. They are all clean. I also removed the control unit from the case and checked the board for any signs of damage. The only thing I found was one set of relay contacts with some arc damage. i carefully cleaned the contacts and re-assembled the unit but there was no change in behavior. Any idea what to look at next? I know, I should just be happy it works at all but I can't seem to leave well enough alone.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Now just to make a liar out of me the system worked flawlessly when I just went out and tried it again. Both doors and the hatch responded within the .5 seconds and stepped through the sequence just fine with only the slightest prolonged hesitation after each one stopping closed. Of course on the final try the passenger window refused to move at all and now won't even respond to the console switch. It has been raining here off and on most of the day and I know I need to replace the outer glass seals on both doors. I suspect I have some water in one of the door connections (cylinder contact, lock motor, harness plug, etc.) that was reducing resistance and helping the controller see the right current and voltage values. Now that water has stopped this one window. I hope it closes in the am after a chance to dry out before I head to work. When I do the glass seals I will be re-gluing the door carpet as it is loose in spots. Sounds like the right time to clean and preserve all the wiring inside the door.

Got my new window motor Saturday (thanks Roger
) and installed it this afternoon after getting home from PCA Palooza. I think the motor that failed was the root cause of my slow response to the "close" command from the key switch. With the new motor installed the windows close very smartly once the key is held in the "lock" position more that a second.
