Hey guys, I'm looking into buying this car and I was tempted to buy it on the spot without seeing it. I got a bunch of pics and it seems to be in decent shape. Not worried about the paint as it'll buff off, but what's the deal with the wiring? Was anyone able to drive it? I live in florida and ticket to Akron were expensice last week....about the same for the price of transportation. If I make the trip next week, can anyone recommend a porsche dealer nearby? I appreciate your help.

I live 60 miles from this car, but did not bother looking at it.
EDIT: Looks like the listing has been pulled. Who bought it?

I'm suppost to be buying this vehicle and shipping it to Florida. I have been in lenghty discussion with the owner, who says the car is in good shape. No, i have never had a 928, but I want a manual transmission and they are really hard to come by. I guess i will try the Orlando route next week if it's still available...now you got me thinking that the car could have been sold locally over the week end. Thanks for the tips

This list can be like a flock of vultures when a good deal comes up. '89 GTs are rare cars. That no one here took the time to follow up on this car should tell you something. If you like to gamble, go for it, but I doubt this car is worth a trip from Florida and then shipping it back down unless you really want an '89 GT. Probably would make a good project for someone local, but there is no way anyone here can help you without more info on the car. Also, do you work on your own cars or would you pay someone else to do the work?
What did the owner tell you about the condition of the car? If you search, there are all kind of posts here on what to ask for in a PPI or to look for on your own.
My advice is to pass and pay for a nice example or find something local if you're looking for a project. There are plenty of MT cars out there if you look long enough.

Or you are not a Christian, you live in a nice neighbor hood or you are asking too much for a hot tub. Flagging on Craig's List has become epidemic. With free programs anyone can have an ad removed for any reason and there is no recourse.

SBoschian,
I was in your situation, except the transaction worked the other way. I brought mine to Ohio FROM Florida. Drove it home.
I am not an expert, and will never profess to be, but here are my thoughts on this car.
Supposedly, this car runs. More of the burden needs to be on this seller if he wants to sell it. Tell him to drive it out of the barn, and video it. Let's hear it run, unless it has been stored and not maintained. Take better photos outside of the barn. He needs to get you "under hood" shots. Belly shots. Closeup interior shots. How long has it been stored? Where and HOW has it been stored? I have seen a 3 year old Honda S2000 with the wiring harness eaten out of it by Squirrels. The owner is trying to sell an admittedly "RARE" car. He should expect a discerning buyer, and should be going through hoops to sell it. When I bought my car, I would ask the seller for oddball photo angles of the car. Within an hour, he would send them. It wasn't so much that a picture was a replacement for a PPI, but it was more to make sure the car was tangible, and showed his intent to help me make a prudent decision on the car. By the time, I got to Florida, to PPI my car, I had talked to his DMV, cleared liens, had a CarFax, used the dealer name on the CarFax to call them and ask questions about the previous owner's service regimen. Learned the name of the previous owners from the Service Dealers on CarFax. Called the previous owner(prior to the one I bought it from). When I got to the house to pick up the car, I had in my possession, pictures of the car PRIOR to the guy I had bought it off. He couldn't believe how much of a background I had done. Actually, he was a little wigged out that I had talked to the guy he bought the car from.
Ask the seller for the VIN number. Get a CarFAX. See when and where it has been titled. There are three online sources that run VIN Numbers for free and give most of the CarFax info. Call the Title Bureau in his county and give them the VIN. Ask for a Lien Check. Ask them if it is listed as Salvage or Rebuilt.
There are lots of things that you can do to start verifying that this car exists, is not a scam, and isn't a boatload of problems. Recently, I found a 911 that I wanted to buy. Price seemed REALLY aggressive. The owner was slow to reply to information requests, etc. Once I got a steady rapport going with the "owner", he started the PayPal scam. This guy wasted a week of my time. The car didn't exist, the email address of the so-called owner Googled as a scam email account, etc. I reported it to Cars.Com. The worst part is that Cars.Com never removed the listing after reporting it as a scam.
The above suggestions are no replacement for a PPI. Simply a pre-qualifier to see if it is worth more of your time.
I stand by my original statement, that I will drive the 60 miles to look at it for a RennList MEMBER. Will also, help a RennLister with travel arrangments, etc., on this end. Hell, I will go look at the car with a RennLister if they want. A second set of eyes on the car, if desired. I'd love to see a Porsche nut rescue a nice GT and get it back on the road.

Mark will be my contact person by phone ( 330-987-9233 ) or email me thru ebay, thanks for looking!"
