Default Ordered Cam Gears Today

These babies are not cheap! The best place I have found so far was Sonnen Porsche. Cost each is $299.92. Website tried to ding me for $50.00 in shipping costs, but I called ahead and said they would ship both gears for $20.00.

Should be here next week.

If you tell me you found them somewhere cheaper... I'm going to cry.

Sonnen in SF Bay Area? If that is the same dealer I am thinking, I don't live too far away from them. When I do my belts, I will find out how my gears look and will probably order from them. I REALLY hope I don't have to do gears this time around.

Mine were shot..I had no choice. As far as their location - haven't got a clue since I'm on the other side of the continent.

Website is: www.porscheoemparts.com

Wow cool site. I just found out how much Porsche charges for a brand new engine too...

ONLY $34,639.57! What a deal!

And yes, this is Sonnen Porsche of the Bay Area.

I usually check with Sunset and/or Stoddard for Porsche only parts.

Although not new it makes me thankful that i bought an old motor with a split cyclinder for 200 bucks. Not new cam gears (oil and crank geears also) but atleast another 80k miles left in them!

Would be nice to have a new set i must say

Mine is an '81 the previous owner changed to the round tooth style. I changed it back with all flat new gears, crank, oil and cam for almost the same price as one new round tooth. The suckers are expensive!

Yeah - I got lucky. Most everywhere I inquired, they wanted at least $417 each. My hometown Porsche dealer was willing to give me 10% off, which would have been around $375 each, minus taxes. On a whim, I did an internet search and found Sonnen and was surprised (and elated) at their pricing, so I called them up and gave them the latest revision of the cam gear part number (...005) and they confirmed it is the new revision gear.

Now, with that being said...

My simple timing belt/water pump excursion will cost me northwards of $1K

I did the new 2 bearing pump and a PK tensioner last time around. I have done all the gears before so not needed...
Not cheap compared to regular cars, but still at least 1 decimal point better than ferrari costs for vintage '70-'80s cars.
