Default Sunroof stuck open

The sunroof is stuck open on my 87S4. I have removed the motor and transmission, but it still will not budge. Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks, David

There are so many things that could be boken and holding it open its hard to say what you should do. Look close on both sides of the track for anything broken or bidding. There are two cables that attached at the front of the sunroof, check to make sure they are attached and not in a bind. Check to see if the leather on the underside of the sunroof (cover) binding. with the motor and gear box out it should slide open and closed.

Good Luck

You wouldn't happen to have the sunroof closing tool that came with the car do you?

I can`t see anything binding . I have also taken the wind deflector off.
Sean I had been using the manual crank to open and close until the screw that holds it in broke. I assume that`s when it stuck. I then ordered a new switch and the motor seems to work fine. With the top stuck I don`t see how to go any farther at this point.
Thanks David

As to the fix, you can't remove the important parts to get in and lube the threaded rods (bet those are dry and bound up). Time to start yanking on that thing.

You might be able to remove the tracks it rides on with the roof all the way back, but I don't think you can. It might have something stuck in them, you 'might' be able to see from inside/under the tracks once moved.

You should be able to access three of the screws holding the rails in place. 3 each side. See if you can get those out and wiggle the tracks enough to dislodge what might be holding it in place.

if that does not work, perhaps you can try to remove the inner panel (with the leather on it) of the sunroof.
It is held by 3 small screws, you can see it if you look closely between the inner and outer panel.

Just remove the 3 screws and try to wiggle it out, then you might get a better look on what is stuck.

I agree with Sean, it maybe time to just pull close with caution to the wind. You can't brake anything you can replace with a little coinage.

P.S. by the looks of the rails your sun roof is due for some new slides and rails.

Okay with the help from a friend we were able to pull the top closed. Then with moving it back and forth and some WD40 it is now free enough to open and close with the motor. Thanks everybody for your quick response and help. I could not have done it without you.
Thanks again
David

Default Leather friction

I once had the leather come loose at the front end and roll enough to bind it. As you can see in the picture, there was a little friction. I had to get a flat paint scraper and wedge it in there while pulling forward.
(sorry for the big pics-iPhone app)

Default leather friction

Thanks, Testarossa Now that the top is working I`ll keep an eye out for friction marks. So far so good.
