Amp Problem

Well, traced some of my electrical problems to the factory AMP. Sounded bad and started draining the battery with the car off.
I am planning to do the carputer thing and don't want to spend much to fix or replace the AMP until I know more of what it is going to take for the carputer setup.
Anyone know where I can pick up a good factory AMP cheap?

I thought that amp was tripped on by the head unit? More specific the power through the Din cable trips the amps internal relay. Relay could be stuck. But.. if the amp is making noises and sounds bad, replace or rebuild.
I couldn't find a factory amp last year. If you find one let me know what you want to do with the old one. My CR1 head units output amp died and took the main amp with it. 4 caps in the head unit had to be replaced and 3 caps, 1 resistor in the main amp.
Good luck

I have a spare 6-channel factory amp.
Not sure if it works correctly though. When it was hooked up, I only got audio through one of the 6.5" speakers (and it seemed to be working extra hard - like it was being feed the signal to both 6.5" speakers).
Once I removed the amp and wired the speakers direct to the deck, the other 6.5" speaker started working and the other 6.5" taht was working before didn'y seems to be fluttering/working so hard to make sound.
I dunno what is wrong with the amp....if anything.

127 to 27 you found it.
Have you tried unplugging the din cable from the radio? If your still at 127 that points to a stuck single power relay inside the amp. It can be freed it up. Let me look for some pictures I took when I rebuilt mine.
It was DIY for me. All of the bad parts were located by either freeze spray or visual. The bad caps look like a frozen soft drink can.
In my last dealings with Ford and GPS tracking systems they only gave us 4mil to add. Needs less to say we added our own battery.

I uploaded a video showing the amp relay tripping.
To take the video all I did was remove the carpet cover then I removed the top center Torx cover screw. You'll see the copper relay switch toggle when I turn the ignition on. I powered the amp up twice on this video.
If you unplug the din cable from the head unit and the relay trips then your problem is a constant power from the stereo. If not then the repay is stuck on. It can be manually pushed open, with something non-conductive. It could have arced it self shut during after a low voltage power up or it's just old.
Hope this helps.

And sorry guys for not yet renewing my Rennlist, other projects have had my time captured. IE LS1/CJ5 Mini cooper and now the wife wants a new bathroom. DIY channel is her favorite.

^ Hmm, will have to look into what else might be drawing power. The amp is currently on a shelf in my garage.
Last month I replaced the ignition switch because the car was turning itself on without the key. When this happened the dash would light up like the key was turned on and everything electrical would work except for the headlights. So yes, the amp relay may have been fried by low battery problems caused by ignition switch. Had to replace the 1 yo battery this week because the ignition switch thing deep cycled it just one too many times.
