The same thing was said during the 928's design phase. That was the height of the fuel crisis here in the USofA. I'm glad they didn't take this attitude and just shelve the entire 928 projekt.

The thought of literally losing the US 911 market was the larger problem at the time.

'Mericans like big front engine cars..and the demographic could afford it.

Yeah. I don't have any hope for another 928, just a panamera coupe done on the cheap.

Not exactly a 'couch guess'....whatever that is.

Was able to go for the 3rd time to the Brumos Museum last night with PCA. They had car #1 of 5 of the special "Brumos B59" Carrera GTSs on display. These five special edition cars were made by the factory to honor Brumos's Porsche history. In person, looking at it directly from the side, & with the rear & side view like in the pic, I did a 2nd take. It looked darn near big enough to be a 2 door Panamera! And the 991 is going to be even bigger, with an interior more Panamera-like according to Brumos's GM. So the comments about the 911 becoming more like a GT sounds spot on. The Fuchs looking wheels were sweet!

Here's a link to the press release about the car:

Another from 9 Magazine that includes the pics from their museum:

btw, If you look in the upper right hand corner of the pic inside their museum, you can see their two 928s on display behind the Porsche Bus. A white '82, and the red IMSA Emergency S4. They don't allow pics inside other than for press releases & published articles, etc, so I couldn't take any myself. They rotate cars in & out, but all three times I've been there, the two 928s are always on display.

As is this entire thread. Doesn't mean it's not fun, though. Just keep it in perspective.

Just curious, is the current generation 911 heavier than an S4?
