Default Cause of starter grinding sometimes?

My starter died earlier this year ( maybe 6 months ago) and replaced with a rebuilt.

At the Frenzy this year, when I tried to start it after sitting overnight, the starter sounded like it was grinding on the ring gear. Turned the key off and then started fine.

Hasn't happened until today and it's done it almost every other start.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

the solenoid isnt fully engaging it might be bad or the starter drive might be bad,
take it back to rebuilder and get a new part before you damage the ring gear .
Also it would be wise to inspect the ring gear for damage
