Roger your correct the staples I didnt have any issues with them coming out the other side, if you can use smaller leg staples then thats a better idea,
With this Caveat though, proof testing might be in order as the door panel fiber may not be soft like it was 30 years ago thus a shorter staple may not hold as well.
The staples I used also work well to fasten the bumper beading.
I used an extension to hammer home the staples in the PU covers .
biggest thing to consider is that the staple ends are flat if they have a bevel to one side then the leg will follow the bevel and twist this can cause the leg to come out the side of the PU cover
Don I would suggest you return the spray and get a 1 qt. can of Weldwood at Homedepot its about 11.00,
frankly it works better than the spray adhesives do
Jerry Weldwood is whitish/ yellow adhesive just like what your trim man is using, except he applies his from a spray gun
FWIW Weldwood also comes in 1 gallon cans
