Default What to lube Odometer gearwheels with?

I’ve got my speedo in bits due to a failed odometer; my question is what do I lube the gears and the spinals that the gears rotate on?

The reason I think it failed is that the original grease turned to glue, the gearwheel was very stiff to turn on its spindle, it had effectively seized, I know this gearwheel does fail with age but in this instance failure was due to the grease.

You can just see in the pic the missing teeth above the worm drive.

Thanks,

Ivan.

No grease (see below). Also, if you haven't checked out Dwayne's excellent writeup on it: http://dwaynesgarage.norcal928.org/1...0Procedure.htm

Thanks Bruce, I was leaning towards no lube.

The task was made simple with a "Dwayne".

How does that man do it?
