Long time to start or not ? Fixed I think

Took her out for a long drive today, couple hundred miles and got some good alternator time on the battery, seems to start up faster. Going to let her cool down for a while and see how the starting goes.
I have no idea how old the battery is and it seemed to start dragging a little bit when it started to get cooler out. The wifes battery died today so replacement will have to wait until next week. Jack

While looking for a clunk noise when I start to back up I think I stumbled into my slow start issue, looks like it was a battery drain ( thanks Greg ). I think the ground cable or what looks like a ground cable it's about 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick comes out near the battery box and heads over the transmission it was sagging down on top of the barrel of the rear axle and had worn thru the casing in a small area the axle was shiny all the way around with what look like it was trying to weld, I believe that might pull a little power off the battery. Got it strapped up and repaired. Sometimes it's better to be lucky I guess. Thanks for all the input. Jack

The ground strap is inside the car, and the B+ does not go over the trans, or at least it should not.
I still think you should do some testing on it, what is the voltage at the starter while cranking? What is the current draw while cranking and how many Mili-amps draw with everything off.
Clean every ground on the car, and do a fuse panel service, these two things need to be done at no more than every other year IMHO.

What you said about going over the top of the trans has me wondering what you have Jack.

Turns out it is a grouping of wires in the spare tire well along with the ABS sensors, lots of colored wires and ground wires, comes out the side and over top differential I lose sight after that. It's been rubbing for a while can't be doing the electrical system any good. Cleaned those grounds while I was there. I will get more into to that later as long as the battery holds charge, need to rebuild the axle before the 29th. Jack

I have both of those if you need a new one to test with Jack.
Since you made this thread, I have been paying attention to how long it takes most of the 928's in the shop and around here to start, around one second seems to be about right.

Definitley not to that point yet but turns over a lot faster with the battery fully charged. I'm not sure how old the battery is but I am wondering, my 86 had a larger battery box than my 86.5. Looking up a battery for a 86 calls for a 900 CCA an 87 calls for a 680 CCA, I assume this is the smaller body battery. Same basic set up why the difference in CCA's? Jack

FWIW, The 4 deadly grounds" is here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...y-grounds.html
