Rear Bumper Paint Question
I am repainting the rear bumper on the 78. The color is Mocha Brown. I want to highlight the letters and was thinking of using a copper colored pearl. There are two issues.
The first is the source of the material. The House of Color makes some pearl crystals that can be mixed with any clear but the smallest quantity is $215 which seems excessive. Granted this is probably enough crystals to paint most of the car. Does any one have a suggestion of a highlight color for the letters?
I also found some water base material that is very reasonable. I have not had any experience with water based products.
The second is masking off the letters. Anyone have experience with sharp masking products.
Thanks a bunch.

if you order the stickers make sure to get the early ones as the letters are slightly different

Not sure of pricing in Cali... but the pearl flakes I used in my paint is a SEM product.
The line is called Color Horizons Lightning FX. It comes is a variety of colors that tend to be purer than regular pearls (do not have the yellow binding dust in them).
2 oz. jar ran about $75. A jar is almost enough to do the whole car.

Barry,
Thanks for the SEM tip. I will look into it. After posting the question I did another internet seach and from a place tha sells crystals for a very reasonable price.
http://www.paintwithpearl.com/uses.htm
For $10 they sell a package of pearls. I ordered some bronze / gold ones to go over the dark brown. I will mix them with clear and see how it comes out. $10 is a lot better then $215 or even $75 but I will check out the SEM products. I am currently using SEM plastic primer, SEM Flex agent and SEM DTM as well as the Vinyl colors for the pods and interiors. All good products.

The stick on letters are tacky. If you paint them before putting them on they will skrink or distort or the paint will crack on application. There will still be a visible seam. I know how these look as well as hand painted letters. I am looking for a special effect and one that is seamless as well. Thanks for the suggestions.
