My 86.5 ABS light comes on after a minute or so of operation, it was random sometimes not coming on for days but now it's about every time. I have cleaned the fronts sensors and was waiting until I did the axles on the rear to clean those, I am sure they are dirty as well as the rings and could be the problem but while I was working under the car I noticed that the sensor wires were cracked and what looks like silver wires were exposed. Could this be a cause to throw a light on and if so is it something that can be wrapped and sealed or should they be replaced? Thanks, Jack

yes exposed wires can touch thus shorting the signal

ABS warining after driving a few yards at more than ? 4mph means a sensor or sensor wiring fault. ABS light that comes on immediately with ign on normally means ABS relay on the CE panel fault but can also mean ABS brain failure or other non sensor faults.

Also you have two more relays up in the fender on the ABS unit you must remove the splash sheilds to access...." ABS light that comes on immediately with ign on normally means ABS relay on the CE panel fault but can also mean ABS brain failure or other non sensor faults. >>" So they too can throw fault codes but as noted that is immediate.
More common is problems with the magnetic/ switches counters, wiring connectors....As I recall the pre 86.5 wheel sensors are no longer being made.....but you can still get the later ones.

I think it throws a light after I start moving, going to pull the rear wheels and clean the sensors as well as wraping the crumbling wire casing. Thanks
