Default Timing belt tension/condition question (w/Pics)

Hi all,

Well the timing belt tension light came on a couple weeks ago. I got the tension tool from Roger.
1. The tension is definitely on the low side, but just lined up at the low edge of the window. Generally, how many degrees of a turn on the tension screw to bring it back into the middle of the window?
2. Of more concern, the belt is riding at the outer edge of the pulley. It appears to have slightly worn off the outside edge of the belt (silver in color) so it must be rubbing on something. Belt looks pretty good otherwise, no cracking, doesn't look dried out, etc. 7K miles on belt and 6 years. Will tensioning the belt change where it rides on the pulley?

I'm checking this for the run south to Sharktoberfest, round trip about 1000 miles. Sorry for the blurry pics, my camera apparently doesn't do close up well. Bottom line, is this belt trip worthy?

Sorry, that should be 42K miles on the belt and six years.

It will tighten a lot with a small twist when it's nearing tight enoug. Make sure the cams are aligned when you make the measurement. After adjusting the tension rotate the engine two crank turns and check again. On the tool, you want the window "shut" with the pointer to the outer edge of the gap.

Thanks Glen, so take it to the tighter side than just the middle, even though an older belt? Here's better pics of the tracking and outer edge of belt.

Dennis, that's running way to far forward, might want to see if the arm bushings are shot. The belt can rub on the arm and wear. It could also be a bent bolt holding the arm on.

whoa, you have other issues beside a loose belt,

From your info i would suggest to replace the tensioner pivot bushings
the belt may be rubbing on the rearside of the crank damper.
If you have a rebuilt waterpump on,
then I would also suggest to replace the pump with a new Laso Roger sells em.
At this point running the engine like this even with the belt tight will make things worse.
If you dont know the status of the pump then replace it as well as the belt
