Default Minor problems

Just got back last night, shortly befor midnight, after 4 days and 750 miles of driving in my 80 Euro S. I spent two days in Penn Yan NY with the car up on a lift. As I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel I was to stay at the lower clutch hose (the hose between the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder) burst. Making the car undriveable. Thanks to the kind folks at 928 International (Tom) the part arrived in Penn Yan overnight, although FedEx took till late in the afternoon to deliver it to the shop that had the car. The fix was quick with bleeding the clutch taking the the most time. The shop Polmanteer Auto Service was great and reasonable for cost. The breakdown let me sans car for two days so I basicly had nothing to do for the whole time I was in Penn Yan. But for an out of town breakdown it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I have had my car for 12 years and not ever replaced the hose, when they removed it it looked cooked from exhaust heat, I guess the heat shielding can only do so much.

The final leg of the trip from Penn Yan to Vermont was no fun at all, pouring rain, washboard road (Rte 8 in NY), and idiots that would pass me and then slow down by ten mph cause the could not see nearly as well leading as they could following. Got to Love 8" H4's and Quality Zenon bulbs @ 80/100 watts.

So Paul, guess you didn't try driving without a clutch, it is doable. I once watched a Trans Am racer lap within a few seconds a lap without a clutch.
I have driven both my 911 and 928 without a clutch. This requires a starter that works well as the engine is off at stop lights, I mostly roll through stop signs if able. Once on the open road in high gear, it's not much of an issue, but if you are not acutely aware of shift points, you could break the trans. I don't recommend it, but it can be done. I wonder who else on this forum has done this?
