Alarm system
The alarm system horn is going off once in a while for a few seconds without any tampering on the car. Is there a way to temporarly disable it until I can find and fix the trouble?

Open the glove box. Remove the liner. In that space there will be a black box about 2" x 4" with two plugs coming out of it. Depending on the year, the pins you need to jumper may be different. IIRC on my '88 it was 15 to 87a. Search function should help you out immensely. If I had to guess, I would say that your hatch alarm sensor is broken and is breaking contact when it shouldn't be, and is therefore setting off the alarm. Does the alarm go off if you push on the hatch slightly?

Can be done at the front of the CE panel like the factory did for alarm-free cars.
Make a short wire with two female wire ends.
Unplug the "Z plug" near the center of the panel, down low.
Careful now, you must connect the right pair of terminals or you have big sparks.
Which to connect depends on year of car! What year is yours?

I'm sure the answer is going to give me a "doh" moment, but how does Z plug fit back on panel if it has jumper on pins (unless the corresponding females are absent fir this socket on panel)?

It doesn't need to.
Just tuck it somewhere, under, behind or in front of panel. Can lay a strip of tape over it if you want.
The alarm jumper position is same 78 thru 83. Then in 84 it changes. Search for the details, or I will post tonight, need to go to WORK now.

The FAQ is Randy V's listing at the top of the Forum page - this should be read by you.
Also, go to Google 928 email keepers for a good description of an alarm disable.

OK, thought it was an earlier car, just glancing at your avatar picture.
For S4, there is a flat 8 pin connector, black, behind the CE panel.
It gets unplugged. Then, on the female plug, the thicker yellow wire and the red/black wire are somehow bridged, either with a separate jumper wire, else they are cut and twisted together.
This is the type of question that has been covered time and again on this forum. Its a technical forum, after all.

STOP.
Disconnect the ground strap.
Proceed.
Maybe you don't have to do that if you are jumping the unit behind glove box. But these gyrations about the Zplug and the CE panel are another thing.

Unplug.
Female side.
Wires at terminals 1 and 4.
1.0mm diameter Yellow + 0.5mm Black with thin red stripe
( wire label key is shown just below. For a two-colored wire, A/B, the A is the major color and the B is the stripe or minor color )
So SW/RT is Black/Red, where it is read to be a black wire with a red stripe.
GE, as seen below, is yellow.
Traced to the CE panel, the yellow wire enters the CE panel at F25.
The black/red wire enters the panel at B 23.
BTW, how do those solid motor and trans mounts work? Do you recommend them?
