Default Bushings in the rear suspension...

Hi all

So, we are going to do some transmission work and will obviously have to drop the rear axle. Are there any specific bushings that wear more than other bushings that should maybe be changed?

We're talking about a 1990 GT here...

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

John

if you wanted to restore the rear end bushings,
i would replace the 2 in each upper control arm dog bone,
and the fat ones that connect the lower control arm rear link to the aluminum subframe

The dog bones will restore camber adjustment and the LCA bushings will restore the firmness of the rear to not shift sideways when full power is applied.

What Mr Merlin said.

Dog Bone bushings are 928 331 089 02 and we sell for $28.41 each
Main bushing is 928 331 588 10 and $44.82 each.

The other bushings 928 331 588 10 x 4 used at the pin connection to the hub are currently not available but normally do not need changing.

Roger:

Does the new arm (92833110102) come with new bushings?

Ducman,

I am in the same boat as you, and have the bushings on order. As a backup, I had a friend in Europe talk to the Porsche dealer and they can get the following bushings (supposedly):

928.331.588.10 (2 pieces)
928.331.588.13 (4 pieces)

Cost is however much higher (around $415 for all the above).
The link bushings 928.331.089.02 are readily available here in the USA. I can post an update when/if I receive them.

If not available, I assume buying new rear lower control arms would come with bushings installed. That is my last resort.

Cheers!
Carl

Carl & Jake,
No 928 331 588 13 in Stuttgart either unless a dealer has a couple in stock.
When I say no stock I have also looked in Germany.
I just ordered another 20 hopeing that will stimulate restocking.

Jeff,
I do not think it comes with the bushings.

You should get it apart and inspect them before getting into this WYAIT activity. I replaced all these and had no appreciable positive effects.

You must suck at driving..im SURE some Honda tuner will tell you how many _seconds_ you can drop off per lap at Watkins Glenn with new bushings...geesh.

Roger, thanks the bushings were supposedly available at the dealership. I will know in a few days for sure.

My bushings are very worn, dried out and slightly distorted. 20+ years of ozone, oil and who knows what else has taken its toll on them, so I would think it is prudent to replace them as I have everything else in pieces. I don't think they are so much for handling but more for isolation of driveline and road vibrations.

Cheers!

Carl,
If they are coming from a dealer you stand a chance that he had some in stock - fingers crossed.
I can see what is in dealer stock here in the US and Canada but not anywhere else.
Best,
Roger

At least you're checking first. I recall a guy who destroyed the bushings getting them out only to discover he couldn't get new ones.

You have to love it, some one makes a post, we find out it is out of stock, Roger makes a order, then it is pretty much a given fact there will be demand and every one wants to replace them.

I have been buying parts to rebuild my suspension, even though it is in good shape it is the only major part of the car I have not redone as of yet so this is right in time.

Hopefully with requests from Roger and the other 928 vendors, they will make some more available. Would be sad if a rebuild grinds to a halt because of some rubber part...

If by chance the dealer in Europe has more than one set, does anyone want me to order additional pieces? I just sent a request to my buddy over there to inquire about how many he had available.

Thanks again Roger for the updates and for putting in another order for them.

Cheers!
Carl
