Question Replacing O-ring seal Intake - MAF

I have a new o-ring seal on its way. I checked the installed one out last weekend and it is old, brittle and stuck (baked on) in a groove on the mating surface of the intake. My MAF assy. just sort of slides and falls in presently and I am hoping based on the loose fit of the MAF that this will improve the idle. (Many thanks to my local 928 buddies for suggestion)

Question 1– any ideas on how to pry the old one out and not let the pieces fall inside? Does what I described match what it is supposed to look like? I always imagined the o-ring would be on the male round portion below the MAF and not on the mating surface under the plenum/manifold.

Question 2- The mating surface plate (intake / manifold?) feels like it is loose where the MAF slides in. Does this sound correct or have an affect on idle also? Perhaps press fit also?

I wanted to get some feedback before trying to replace the O-ring this week. I do not want to screw this up. I know it looks easy enough but s$%t happens.

Sit there with a big shop vac on while you're pulling out the bits of old o-ring. The vac will suck down the debris.

FYI do you don't confuse people, the 81 never came with a MAF, you have an Air Flow Meter (AFM) or "barn door" system aka L-Jet.

I always use dental type picks to get those out. +1 on the shop vac.

My '81 has the same loose feel even with a new 'O' ring. Dental pick is also what I used.
