Looking for a good switched ignition source for electric fan controller - success!

hey guys...looking for same thing Dr. Bob was above...12 V switched in engine bay to activate relay for electric fans....
I tested all 6 pins for my wiper connection (86 S3) and none of them have 12 V when the car is switched on....is this wire somewhere other than that modular connector?
I really don't want to run anything from the fuse box....I tried putting jumper on fan relay and have zero luck getting consistent 12 V from the fan leads that normally plug into the thermal switch on the bottom of the radiator...sometimes it does but I can't get consistent....any ideas sincerly appreciated..only option for me is running into fenderwell and it's a massive, massive pita...
Thanks.

I have a fan kit to install once I bore through a couple other projects- if you have any time, I'd appreciate any pics of wiring you might be able to share via email or pm, it's a particular weak point of mine. You may have to change your handle- you're rapidly progressing from Noob to contributor/teacher!

No problemo SMT...I will grab some pics but first I do want to tidy a couple things up...the search for switched 12V made a little of a mess so right now I'm not as pretty as I like things to be in that area.
One disclaimer: I upgraded to the new aluminum radiator from 928Intl at the same time so I had easier access to one or two places with the radiator out of the car...one of them a ground on the passenger side just ahead of the ignition coil..I could never get to that but with the rad. out it was a breeze..and glad I did cause it was funky and needed a good cleaning.
I'll put a few pics up here in a few days...I got wire tidying up and the new ICV to install...
Then on to replacement of the cheapo electric valve with the more expensive unit (replaced the vacuum operated heater valve)
Oh yeah and my drivers side door handle is operating with it only half attached...I wonder if I can get my Dr. to write me a prescription for mood stabilizers before I tackle that one ....
Oh and if you haven't cleaned those two grounds at the back of the engine (they are basically under the rear fuel damper and the FPR (they are for the LH and EZF), DO IT. I missed those and did them today and it's running a lot stronger all the way through the RPM range...

I'll have to look at the diagrams...never can find those things....if you look underneath the rear fuel damper on drivers side and under FPR on passenger side you'll see a ground going to a bolt under each of those...not hard find.
