Hello,
I’ve been lurking for a few weeks and thought I would introduce myself at this point.
I live in the Minnesota Twin Cities area and am the past owner of a 928S. I have the bug again so am looking to purchase another. This time around, I am pretty much looking for an S4 in muted colors (greys, blues, etc.). Would prefer a manual but if the right automatic was available, I would be happy with that, as well. Mainly, I am looking for a very solid example. If you know of any leads, I am all ears.
I’ve looked at a number of local cars – some nice and some not-so-nice – but thought I’d branch out nationally. I’ve checked ebay, cars.com, etc. Ideally, I’d purchase from a private party and enthusiast.
My previous 928 was a midnight blue ’85 which I owned from ’92 to ’98. I sold it with 165K miles and it performed flawlessly during my time with it. It was not the money pit that others would have had me believe back then.
I’ve really enjoyed reading up on things here (thrust bearing issue was news to me). There certainly is a lot of expertise, activity, resources, and camaraderie here. Looking forward to learning more!
Michael

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

928 Owners are ".....a secret sect of quietly assured Porsche pragmatists who in near anonymity appreciate the prodigious, easy going prowess of the 928."![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)

The horror stories do get far more press. Your 85 was only 13 years old when you got rid of it, the newest S-4 you could buy is going to be 20 years old. Seven more years of wear, tear, degeneration, abuse can be pretty serious.
The nice low miles cars are often priced much higher than the average car but often are well worth it. If you prefer a 5 speed you really should try to find one. There is much evidence that being a 5 speed /GT makes the car far more valuable and collectable......and more fun
