Nope. These plus a quartet of harbor fright 6-ton stands and you're good for essentially every job on a 928.

I use 6 ton stands, but when I saw the Porkens I thought it a much more civilized way to get the car up High, and my neck and shoulders told me this should be a go !

FYI: If you are buying a floor jack to use w/ them, you want to be sure it goes low enough. I have one of the light weight $59 racing ones from Harbor Freight and it is just fine. A few months after using it I happen to be in a tool store that was selling a open box floor jack for $25. Seemed like it would be nice to have 2 jacks and not have to go back and forth with the one as you raise and lower the car. Found out the jack was just a bit too high to fit under the bar when you start jacking. It was ok for lowering, i.e. the car will sit higher, but not to start the process.

Thanks Joe. The heavy jack that I use is low enough to get under the rear cross member.

You're going to love 'em. I'd only add that you not loan your bars to anyone with a pre-86.5--they're not backwards compatible and someone might get squished. I bought them for my 93 and tried them on my 84; a bad idea...

If you have your ride-height about right, you're floor jack should be okay. If it's not, you just have to raise the car like normal (without the bars) and then lower it. Its memory will keep it high enough for you to use the bars.

I just used my Liftbars for the first time today. I'm using Torin 6 Ton Jack Stands and the clearance is awesome(almost 23"). I also purchased an Arcan Lift as my other Torin Lift didn't have enough lift height.

Thinking about throwing a party under the car there is so much room

Wow. I almost feel bad for myself for not knowing of these things. I believe I will make acquisition tomorrow. Thanks for the reply with the pic.

I am thinking about ordering up a set of these. How stable are they? Are you fairly confident under there?

What does everyone recommend for jack and jack stands.

Most of the 6 Ton combined jack stands have maximum height of 24". Most jacks that I sell here at work are 18 to 20 inch maximum height. Is a low profile jack required for these cars with the Porken Bars?

Any suggestions?

Some jack stands have a 'cradle' at the top that fits the liftbar perfectly and pivots as you go up. Look for those.

A low profile jack is definitely required.

And to the earlier question it is MUCH more stable using these than any setup you can dream up using just jack stands. Also much quicker to get stable. I've done it both ways and it used to take me 20 minutes or more to get the car set up on stands and level without any movement. With the liftbars, it's maybe 5 minutes total and it's perfectly secure.

I would go with a low profile, but you don't have to--it just makes it easier. Plus, they're just better for just lifting the rear of the car too.

The only thing I would add is use a jack with a big(er) disk at the lift point--i.e., the round plate on the jack that touches the car. The cheaper jacks like you see at WalMart for $40 have a small 2-inch disk. So, if your jacking and your jack isn't rolling with the strokes towards the vehicle, with a small disk, it's possible for it to slide out from underneath the lift bar. I can only imagine the crease that would leave in the side of a car if that happened. The better/bigger jacks have the 4-inch or bigger plates. I bought a HF jack for ~$100 a couple years ago and it works great with the lift bars. I see they have 6 ton jack stands for $45 a set with a 24" height.
