Why, might you ask? Because the motor shaft has a slight amount of in/out play, and it just may be enough to make a difference. With the fan facing up, the shaft shifts towards the motor, but facing down, it shifts towards the housing opening, taking up that clearance that you thought you had between the squirrel cage and the edges of the opening in the housing.

I got to hear what the fan rubbing on the housing sounds like when everything is all back together.

yup. This.

i checked it out side the car and it was fine. When that long screw goes in from underneath it may distort the case a bit....and mine started to rub.
simple fix...just revove it all and tap the blower fan a little farther down on the shaft. i went just a bit farther than the appx 1mm Rob shows. Works great.

going to see what amps it draw shortly.

Hi Rog,
I am wondering if you still sell these motors, I am after a blower motor for my 85' 944. If you no longer have them perhaps could you point me into the right direction please? Thanks! imi

Has anyone thought about putting a relay into the circuit to help eliminate this problem with the current draw at the panel and wiring? Let the current wiring drive the relay circuit and run a fed from the main power feed somewhere. It is not the stock setup but it might be a good move to make. If someone has done this it would be nice to see how they did it. and where they mounted the relay and where the tied into the power source.

Does anyone happen to know what the CFM rating is for the stock 928 blower?

I didn't see an option for the early cars. I have a 1979 LHD US spec car I am working on.

We sell the early Passat motor for $85 - need a little Dremel surgery but works fine.

OK. Cool. Do you have the link to it? I searched for the blower and only found the late model.
