Wiper Motor Removal Question
I'm in the process of pulling out my wiper motor to clean it and replace the bearings. I also needed to move it out of the way to replace the cooling system hose that links up to the short hose...collar clamp is not accessible with the motor in place. I have the various window trim pieces off the car which has allowed me access to the wiper motor area, and I have removed the three fasteners that secure the motor to the wiper mechanism. Motor is now able to move freely, but is still attached to the wiper mechanism (less the bolt, #5 and washer, #6)
I'm a bit stuck at this point b/c I can't figure out how to release part #4 from the motor, or how to release part #4 (top nut is off) from part #2. I've looked around, but can't seem to locate a write up, and the WSM doesn't seem to be much help either. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks, Dave.

Removing #2 from #4 is very easy, it just slips over #4 with a plastic bushing onto a ball on #4- so just prying up a little will alow it to slip right off. #4 is just a press on fitting and alines on a fine spline on the shaft. A pair of pliers and some wiggling is all that is requiered to remove.

Michael, thanks. I was eventually able to get #2 and #4 apart...like you say its easy, but does require some force...enough I thought, that I could probably brake something if I was doing it wrong...thankfully not. Worth noting, the lower #2 had a tendency to angle a bit under leverage and wouldn't pop off. Once I took a pair of needle-nose pliers and leveled while levering it, it popped off with far less force.
In the end I was able to pull the wiper motor without removing #4 since there was just enough room to twist the whole thing out. I will still need to pull #4 though since I want to remove / clean the gear and replace the grease. Next step will be to figure out what grease to use in the gear...also not clear if the rear "angle bearing" gets any grease...mine appeared to be dry.
Thanks again for the help - Dave

Looking at the same job
Searching and finding this thread, I can see that I'm in the same boat of needing to remove the wiper motor. So do I need to remove the sheet metal at the cowl in order to get to the three large phillips head screws?
What is the procedure for clearing this area?
Thanks, Josh

I have removed the entire assembly before so what you need to do is remove all number 3's and the 5, then take off the wipers.
After that remove the Cowl which is held on by 2 bolts at the back of each fender.
Then take off the large thin nuts that hold the assembly down underneath the wipers.
After that remove number 16 and it will fall slightly (this is what you want) and now you can remove the wiper motor.

ARRRRRRRGH! Need help-wipers out of sync
Friends,
Well I succeeded in removing the wiper motor in order to replace the two heater core hoses-done.
Putting the wiper arms back on the motor, I probably moved them and now the wipers move up half way then go backwards below window shield line then back up to stop. So something is out of sync.
How do I re-set to "0"? I can't understand what's going on here; I can tell you this much; it is now very well lubricated and the whole area clean and now I know how to get to it...but geez I don't want to tear into it again; those heater lines were a PITA.
This is probably an easy(ier) fix but my brain and shoulder hurt. Any help appreciated.

OK first you should have marked the relationship of #4 to the motor shaft .
NOTE the motor has to be in the park position.
So remove the wiper arms.
Refit #4 after you cycle the wipers this will return the motor to rest position .
and hopefully you will see where the position of #4 should go.
Then fit the wiper arms to the spindles.
spray some water on the window and cycle the wipers
