I found that the parts catalog was very useful when it come's to identifying what parts go where.
It's the same as putting together a model car really...

Since you are in the Philly area....you need:

1) A cell phone
2) Gary Knox and Capt Earl's phone numbers on speed dial
3) A well stocked checking account

In all seriousness, if you buy a "bad car" that has a lot of deferred maintenance it will hoover your wallet like Charlie Sheen's drug habit. If you get a good one and then keep up on the maintenance it will be quite reasonable to maintain until you catch the modification/restoration bug.

I thought Capt. Earl was retired from working on 928's? At least I read that somewhere.

I just checked in about a day after posting and ALL of you responded? WOW! You guys are passionate...and incredibly helpful. GREAT suggestions and pics. Just increasing my desire even further.

Thought it was fate when I was cleaning up my sons toys the other day, and found a Matchbox 928 '79 that he must have gotten from my parents, as it was originally mine. It's on the desk in my office now. Maybe I'll put a kickdown bypass on it...

Thanks!

Spare fuses and a few spare relays and the chart for each are nice things to keep in the car:

I was just driving Helmut and coming back from a friends house when as I pull out onto a busy road, the car dies, with no joy on trying to restart. Rolled back into a side street, and went to work trying to trouble shoot the no start. Started with fuel pump fuse, then relay (I keep spares) still nothing, tried electronic injection relay, nothing, tried a fresh relay in the LH-Jetronic and vrooommm!!

Very funny. Actually you gave me an idea. Until I have one of my own, I should probably take a pick of the one I really DO own and use it as my avatar.

And it is silver metallic with a navy blue and light blue "928" on the hood, with a red interior, if you were actually interested.

Practice smiling while you drive, or your face will hurt.

That was what he told me at SITM this year.
