Don't think they had adaptive computers spraying the cars like modern times, now the computers can recognize a different car and adapt to the paint profile for each model on the fly and paint any model back to back.

Funny though, I remember telling people about the early GTS rod issue around 15 years ago... certain people thought I was smokin something then too.

As a Porsche parts dealer you usually come across a lot more info than just owners do and/or will ever hear about, or be able to find. Some things are just "word of mouth only" and you had to be there to know about it.

In reality, sorry I caused a sidetrack to this thread, just when I saw the car and heard the location it rang a bell in my head...just thought I would share some first hand knowledge.

Again, I never said this IS the same car...but as you know there are only a handful of these things...and it could be that one, or not.

Either way, it appears to be a nice car...I'd be tickled chitless and proud to own it...if you bought it for me... LOL

No worries on sidetracking the thread, I think this issue you brought up needs to be discused and shouldn't be left open ended.

I know anything IS possible since we're talking about Porsche here but, production dates on the 1995 model runs from 09/19/1994 through 08/09/1995 for the 77 GTSs (30 of them are black) built for North America and since the black ones are sprinkled throughout those production dates; unless Porsche kept the supply of black piant specifically for the GTS seperate from paint for the other models and bought and stored (OR, if the formula for GTS black is different from ALL the other models - which also seems unlikely) all they expected to need for the GTS production run on hand it does seem unlikely to me that it would only be the GTS that was affected?

Could it be that several GTSs had bad paint and needed to be resprayed and they just happened to be black?

Other period models build at Zuffenhousen used same paints including ROW cars. I believe factory grouped together several same color code cars and painted them consecutively. Changing paint color takes time and thus it makes sense to paint as many cars with same color as possible. Thats one of the reasons why paint to sample is so expensive option.

If problem was specific to some water based paint batches it can be smaller that total number of black GTS made. At same time it can affect some same color 968 and 993. There is different paint code for water paints. Non metallic black in water version is L741 while old style paint is L747 or possibly L700.

AFAIK that doesn't tell which style paint was used. Those codes are separate coding system which were used side by side with Lxxx codes. Option stickers etc use Lxxx style.

It seems that most everyone here "EXCEPT" Chuck Z is missing the real point which is...." A real life 95, last year GTS 5 speed(one of 30)that has been serviced to death by HOWARD(one of the BEST in the business) for ONLY $38,900.00 !!!!!! We just wrote a deal yeasterday on our "ONE OWNER",all original Black /Tan GTS 5 speed with only 13k miles for $109,500.00 !!!!!!!!!!! Now it seems way "CHEAP" and a "GREAT" buy for a Rennlister or who ever, who doesn't want to spend "SPACE SHIP" money to get one of the same, does it ???

GTS 5 spd, virtually new, is a Faberge egg.
If I could've swung it, I'd have bought it.
Congrats!

How would its value relate to an S4 or S or early car?

Wasn't there a 6K mile midnight blue over grey 5spd 94 GTS that went for over $100K a year or two ago? That sale, combined with this one - in what has to be considered a soft economy - tells me people in circles outside Rennlist are giving serious props to the 928GTS . Whether or not this trickles down to other models remains to be seen, but I certainly see this as good sign.

There is still some way to go before last '95 US model new MSRP is beater. Once these low miles late MY GTS beat it then market has really taken off and it can be expected for other less expensive models to follow.
