Jim, 2 coolers doing nothing makes no difference. Just don't connect what you don't need.

Just replaced same on my 81 - works 100%
Cooler on left is not used - right side is used if auto, otherwise just use water hose connections.

I have a new old stock, no cooler radiator still in the box, I'll trade you for one of these.

Not in a positon to purchase a unit at this time, a new radiator would fix alot of "running hot" 928's instead of replacing belt driven fans with electric fans.

I understand, H. I'm going for a high level of originality. So no compromises, esp. on the visual stuff.

I believe it would work. And if I had the extra $, I would do for my Perl where I'm much less concerned about originality.
Good news is, it ain't broke.

Does any one have any good data on how much better IF any the all aluminum radiators cool better than a new Behr?

I have been fighting a slight over heat issue with mine for a while, and I am sure it is a radiator cooling capacity issue.
but mine looked great when I had the ends off a while back, water pump has been blue printed with Greg Browns block repair kit, all seals in the T-stat are good.

It is not a indicator issue, at the top of the white line the Shark tuner shows 210, which is very close to what the IR gun shows.

so it is getting warm, and I need to get it running cooler before I put my twin screw on it, just for detonation margins.

Greg I think they make no difference. Instal lower temp thermostat a d radiator fan switch. You can feel the Rad by hand once the thermostat closes. Does it get hot throughout?

Thanks for your input, have you ran both of them?

Fan switches and lower temp t-stats are bandaids, at best from what I have seen.

Yes, according to the IR gun it is not stopped up, and it only gets hot under high power settings, IE running at take me to jail speeds for extended periods, so it is not a air flow issue that fans or a lower temp T-stat would help.

It has to be one of two things, either the T-stat is not directing all the coolant back to the radiator (which I doubt, as I have replaced the seals and T-stat) or it is a radiator heat shedding issue, which is what I think it is, but I do know that some radiators are better at shedding heat than others, that is why I wonder if the all aluminum ones have more capacity to shed heat due to larger or more cores than the stock ones.

I went down this road with my corvette, and with the huge intercooler in front of the radiator it just will not work well unless the speed is up, which is a air flow problem there, the 928 is just the reverse.

I do know I have to solve this before I put on the twin screw, or bad things are likely to happen.

OK. If you think they're bandaids that's up to you. This isn't rocket science. If you have the thermostat properly installed and your water pump, temp sensors, overflow tank, hoses and radiator are fully functional, you cannot overheat the engine.

Yes, I think the radiator is not doing its job.
All of the others are seemingly working correctly, I have the waterpump set at .025, which is pretty tight, new coolant res, new hoses, new seals, fans are working, (which should not matter about the fans at speed)
I am not trying to be a dick, I just think that a lower temp t-stat only delays the onset of the engine warming up if the radiator can not shed heat, the fan switches only turn the fans on longer or sooner, but again, I can not see how that (the fans) can make any difference in it running hot at speed.

Please prove me wrong, always willing to learn new stuff and really willing to learn if I am wrong.
