That's exactly what I had in mind as the best possible shift linkage design.
I was thinking of using the 2 existing studs along with a strap clamp around the TT but that's because I don't weld very well.

Yours looks to be a well engineered piece!

I gave the torque tube and the shifter rod a quick paint job today. Below are some pics that show a little better. I can't wait until I get this in the car and see how it works under power. It shifts very nice as it sits.

Once I verify it works nicely in the car I think I will make a small run of them and see if there is any interest in them.

Nice work!!

I'm curious how this setup will do from a vibration standpoint. Keep us posted!

I used the stock split bushings and springs so I don't think vibrations will be a problem.

Make a doezen, it will sell. Then you can afford to insulate the rest of that garage!

Have you maintained the pin diameter and centre to centre distance? You will have guessed the reason I ask ... as you've kept the bushings and springs it would seem that the standard shifter would go straight on?

How about exhaust pile clamps/straps off a semi-truck?

I stretched the center to center a bit for some shorter throw but not too much. I maintained the pin diameter. The stock lever would not work the way it is now but I could make one of the parts to the stock center to center dimensions and the OEM lever would work.

I also planed on turning up a round top for the shifter and engraving the shift pattern on it. I wanted to get it in the car before I decide on the final overall height of the shifter in the car. I could mill the shape of the stock lever on to mine so the OEM shift know would fit and the interior would remain stock.

I think I could offer a few different options with different pricing.

I think you're likely to reach the widest possible market if you can do this.

Many 928 owners, me included, have cars we want to keep stock, or if we do modify, want to be able to revert to stock without any remnant damage. My GTS falls into that category .. but I'm prepared to go further with my 82, and it doesn't matter because it wasn't pristine/original to start with.

Maybe offering a base model that keeps stock shifter and allows mounting without welding ... then welded and the other shifter options. I'll look forward to seeing your options and the finished products ... and pricing when you're ready.

Great work ...

PS: Some feedback on shifter length ... I find the shifter on my 82, which has a short shifter, just a little too short in throw ... the stock GTS is the right height above the console but a bit too long in throw. I could check if there is any difference in gearbox selector rod travel, and linkage geometry between the late and early if it would be helpful.
I'd be interested to hear what pin to pin centre distance, and shifter length you've settled on ... to compare with what I have on both cars.

Looks very nice. The clamp, combined with some excellent high temp adhesive should locate it very rigidly! Parts in the newly designed airplanes are attached via adhesives, not rivets.

I am interested in an improved shifter as stated earlier. To me, a quality shifter is the last piece of the puzzle for a fast, fun, track car.

I realize you are still in development, but any sort of ballpark on cost? I am going to have to address my issue sooner than later.

I only streched the center to center just about .200", I do not feel that this is too short in throw at the top of the lever. Do you know what the center to center on your 82 is?

The selector rod travel on my 84 is about .900" if I recall.

I do not have a ballpark on cost yet but I will do what I can to keep it reasonable. I have total control over the machining cost so that will be a big help. I have a target price in my head which I will try to get to.
