Unhappy oil in the valley again!?

I bought the car with, a 1/2 cup of oil in the valley, cleaned and secured all the lines, started the car, let it idle 10 minutes and a tablespoon of oil appeared, what am I missing? Looked in the intake and it has oil in that as well.

82 928s euro
automatic 130k miles

also noticed a passenger side oil leak valve cover or cam, I will know in the next day or so.

thanks
tim

I think the car is telling you it is sad..... for being parked outside in the same place for a year.

Reads like an oil breather or filler neck gasket issue to me. Check the hoses off the oil filler and its gasket.

I wave at it when I drive by, though.

16V is notorious for leaks of thick small O-rings, sandwiched between cam gear backing covers and cam towers, but the oil usually runs down the engine and out the sides, not into the valley

You guys sound like the Mrs., I am also redoing the inside of the house is my excuse, and you know I got a dozen 914's that need attention too. (Making one for rallycross and an ls1 time trial car) I will have it on the road this time next week, or else it is for sale. (wife says) she sold my EVO RS, and before that the stealth rt twin turbo, so she don't mess around, oh yeah the 924S too. By the way Jim, I wave at your car too when it goes by, beautiful car, great sound.

check the oil fill spout first ,
there should be 2 bolts that hold it to the block,
you will find one of them under the internal screen after you pull out the screen,
if these are tight then look along the inner edge of the cam tower its also possible that if the cam tower gaskets were replaced then you may have older style towers that had very thin gaskets fitted to the lifter guides,

these gaskets do not get fitted with the new style cam tower gasket, as they will prevent the cam tower from seaingl along its edges,
you can also use a feeler gauge to see if it will fit into the seam of the tower and the head try a .002 feeler gauge

Stan is the man ... it is 99% always the filler spout. Pull it and put a stock seal in there.

thank you sirs. it is very much appreciated, I plan to replace all gaskets involving the filler. then I will figure where the burning oil is coming from on passenger side around valve cover, I suspect cam seal and valve cover gasket. was hoping to have it ready for saturday but not looking good unless someone knows local parts supplier in Richmond va

Euroclassics can get Porsche parts from PCNA is two days, if they don't stock it.
Do not confuse this with a recommendation to use their service dept., because that will never happen.
And I would only recommend them if you are in a pinch. Otherwise, 928 specific vendors are the way to go.

BAP Geon has some limited parts capability but they are kind of snooty unless you have a VW. But you know that.

The seals behind the mickey mouse ear covers are often the culprits. Oil magically appears along the lower edges of the cam covers, but comes from the front of the block.

I do have a set of cam cover gaskets here somewhere. Might have the cam seals too. I'd need Roger-prices for them so I can replace.
